Director of Nursing, Quality and Patient Experience

I have worked in a diverse range of nursing roles in both the NHS and Welsh Government during my career that has so far spanned 36 years. Having trained in Swansea as a mental health nurse, I went on to initially specialise in the care of older people with mental health needs before undertaking a wider senior leadership role across the mental health division as well as leading a number of cross Trust initiatives.

In 2005, as Welsh Government Regional Nurse for mid and west Wales I worked as a member of the regional performance team, providing leadership and support to NHS organisations on the clinical, quality governance agenda. Following this I spent seven busy but fulfilling years as the deputy director of nursing in Cardiff and Vale University Health Board before heading off to the role of chief nurse, providing leadership for nurses and allied health professionals (AHPs) in Solent NHS Trust, based in Southampton.

When the opportunity arose in 2017 to come to Hywel Dda University Health Board as the Executive Director of Nursing, Quality and Patient Experience it was a dream come true! Whilst there have been many highlights in the last 2 plus years I am particularly proud of introducing the Enabling Quality Improvement in Practice (EQIiP) programme and hosting the first UHB nursing and midwifery conference in 2019.
