About Me

Independent member - Local authority

I was born and raised on a family farm near Tregaron, where I now live and farm with my wife Caryl and our three sons.

After attending Ysgol Henry Richard, Tregaron, I graduated with a BSc honours degree in Agriculture from Harper Adams University and Aberystwyth University.

As a farmer, I have a keen interest in shaping the success of the industry and have held roles with the Young Farmers Club and Hybu Cig Cymru. Previously Chairman of Ceredigion YFC, I was honoured to be elected Chairman of Wales Young Farmers Clubs in 2006-2007. During my year of office, I ran the London Marathon and raised over £35,000 for Cancer Research Wales. I continue to support the YFC and am currently a co-opted member of Wales YFC Council and on the Board of Management of Ceredigion YFC. I was also appointed as a Non-Executive Director of Hybu Cig Cymru in 2009, a role I held for four years.

In 2012, I was elected as the Ceredigion County Councillor for the Llangeitho Ward and am currently chairman of the Council’s Corporate Resources Overview Scrutiny Committee. During my time with Ceredigion Council, I have had the privilege of holding a number of portfolios including being the cabinet member with responsibility for Economy and Regeneration for over 10 years and as the Council’s member Champion for Biodiversity and Public Health.

In addition to my role at Ceredigion County Council, I also represent my local community as an elected member of the Llanddewi Brefi Community Council and attend Llangeitho Community Council meetings as an observer. I am also a member of the Llangeitho and Llanddewi Brefi Hall and Show committees.

Currently the Chair of Governors of Ysgol Henry Richard, Tregaron, I am also a governor of Ysgol Rhos Helyg Primary School, Llangeitho and Bronant.

On a national level, I chair the Welsh Government’s Independent Appeals Panel and sit on the Lord Chancellor’s Advisory Committee. In 2008 I was a member of the All Wales Convention panel, helping to facilitate the discussion on the future of government in Wales.

I am delighted to be joining Hywel Dda University Health Board as the local authority representative, and look forward to supporting the health and care of our local communities for years to come.
