Endoscopy

Current status as of 14th August 2020

We are currently running a limited endoscopy service due to social distancing regulations for safe practice. Due to the limitations we are currently offering this service to all patients referred in that are Urgent Suspected Cancer and very urgent patients only.

Procedures currently being undertaken per site:

  • Upper & lower endoscopy lists
  • Bowel Screening Wales lists
  • Bronchoscopy list
  • Flexible cystoscopy lists
  • Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP)

Prince Philip Hospital

Withybush Hospital

Bronglais Hospital

  • Upper & lower endoscopy lists
  • Bowel Screening Wales list
  • Bronchoscopy list with the introduction of FIT (Faecal Immunochemical Test) testing in June we have revalidated and prioritised patients in low risk groups suitable for this service.

As we are currently not undertaking any routine endoscopy, all routine referrals are triaged and offered a virtual clinic appointment via telephone for assessment if appropriate.

Future plans

Phased plans to increase capacity to five patients per list across all sites adhering to social distancing regulations.

Reintroduction of urology lists on the Bronglais General Hospital (BGH) site.

If capacity allows, recommencement of routine endoscopy on patients deemed appropriate for procedure.

Validation of all patients currently on the surveillance pathway and clinically prioritised as per national guidelines.
