Access to food for those in need during COVID-19 Crisis

This provides information and contact details to help:

  • Families who receive free school meals
  • Those who may need access to Foodbanks
  • Plus additional sources of help for people in each county

Healthy Start Vouchers

If you’re pregnant or have a child under 4, you could get Healthy Start vouchers to help buy some basic foods and vitamins. This means tested scheme provides vouchers to spend with local retailers. Click here to visit the healthy start website (opens in a new tab).

Free school meals

Since Monday 14th September all free school meals have returned to usual local arrangements and are provided on site in the school settings. Free school meals will also be provided through the school holidays until Spring 2021 according to local arrangements.

Families are being encouraged to apply for free school meals if they have had a change in circumstances e.g. household income. More information including how to apply can be found on their County Council's website.

Period Poverty

Period poverty affects 1 in 10 young women. Free sanitary products funded by the Welsh Government Period Dignity grant are available in Pembrokeshire and Ceredigion, as well as in Carmarthenshire as part of the #PeriodPovertySirGâr project. Contact your county council or local food banks to access.


Pembrokeshire Community Hub

The Community Co-ordination Hub, set up by Pembrokeshire County Council, PAVS and Delta Wellbeing, offer advice and assistance to access help in the local community. The Hub has responded to over 5,300 calls helping with many things including shopping, a friendly chat, grocery delivery, or cooked meal delivery.

Pembrokeshire Action to Combat Hardship

Offer food, toiletries, sanitary products and cleaning products to those that are in financial crisis and cannot afford them (not those that can’t access). People need a referral, to refer contact:

Pembrokeshire Trussel Trust Food Banks

Foodbank centres are open on their usual days, people are given time slots for social distancing. If referring clients, phone to arrange the most appropriate venue and time for them to attend. 

Fishguard and Goodwick Food Group

Collect & distribute surplus food (and basic cleaning products), which are donated by supermarkets and other food outlets in Fishguard, Haverfordwest and places in between.

Surplus food is available to all to help reduce local food waste. Users are able to collect a selection of foods that have been donated by local stores and supermarkets which are surplus to requirement . There is no charge for this although donations are welcome. No referral is needed.

Bags of Care Plus Scheme

Free hot meals delivered twice a week to individuals including the elderly who are isolated and lonely, individuals with learning disabilities, those on low/no income, those who are shielding or living alone and unable to access hot meals and those who are homeless or with serious housing difficulties.

Meals are delivered within a 5 mile radius of Merlin's Bridge and the Haverfordwest area.

Meals are delivered Monday - Friday 10.00am-12.00pm or 2.00pm-4.00pm
