Changes to the telephone numbers that mums-to-be use to access the Midwife Led Unit at Withybush Hospital come into effect on Monday 2nd December 2019. Women who are under midwifery led care and choose to give birth in the Midwife Led Unit at Withybush Hospital can access the unit 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
From 2 December 2019, if women need to see their community midwife between the hours of 9am and 5pm, Monday to Sunday, they will need to contact their community midwifery team on numbers provided by their community team.
If women need to contact their midwife after 5pm and before 9am, they will need to contact the Midwife Led Unit at Glangwili Hospital on 01267 248640 who will contact the on-call midwife. The on-call midwife will then call the woman back to discuss the plan of care. There will be a team of four community midwives on call every night across Pembrokeshire.
There will be no change to the provision of the Designated Ambulance Vehicle (DAV). Julie Jenkins, Head of Midwifery for Hywel Dda University Health Board: “There will be no change to the provision of care as the Midwife Led Unit will continue to operate a 24/7 service for women. The Midwife Led Unit will still to be an integral hub, with a focal point for all midwives and health care support workers within the locality.
“The midwifery teams will provide continuity of care as part of the current service provision when delivering safe, effective care. By bringing together these resources and skills this will ensure that women and families are cared for within the most appropriate pathways and by the professionals that best meet their needs.”
