What is the plan for Prince Philip Hospital in Llanelli?

If endorsed by the Welsh Government, the programme will include refurbishment of Prince Philip Hospital by winter 2032.

The hospital will remain as a local general hospital, supporting acute medical admissions and acting as a stabilisation and transfer hub for certain specialised conditions, as it does now. It will continue to have:

  • 24/7 GP-led urgent care centre/minor injuries unit
  • 24/7 acute medicine, including admissions and consultant-led overnight beds and high dependency care capability
  • 24/7 diagnostics (tests, scans etc)
  • Critical care
  • Day surgery and endoscopy
  • Outpatient clinics and specialist ambulatory clinics
  • Chemotherapy
  • Facilities to offer midwife-led deliveries
