Will contraception affect my breastmilk?

If you’re using a hormonal method, a small amount will enter the milk, but no research has shown that this will harm your baby. However, methods containing oestrogen may affect milk production starting, hence should only be started after six weeks

To make sure you start the best method for you, please talk to your midwife, doctor, GP, health visitor, or the sexual health service (01267 248 674) for advice.
