We consulted with the public for 12 weeks from 28 April to 22 July 2025 on how minor injury services will be provided at Prince Philip Hospital’s Minor Injury Unit (MIU). The consultation has now come to an end but you can access the consultation information below.
From 1 November 2024, the opening hours of Prince Philip Hospital’s Minor Injury Unit (MIU) were changed to 8:00am - 8:00pm daily (instead of 24 hours a day). This change was put in place to protect patient and staff safety, due partly to a shortage of GPs available to cover the MIU overnight.
Engagement process
We worked with our staff and community to consider a longer-term clinical model (way of providing care). The aim was to meet the needs of the population of Llanelli and surrounding communities and health and care quality standards.
Engagement workshops were held with nurses, clinicians, the ambulance service, out-of-hours GPs, campaign group members, and people in our community who expressed an interest (representatives from amongst this list chosen at random). These sessions considered potential options for the future of the service, including a return to the previous 24/7 model. The Health Board considered this work at its public meeting in September 2025, where a final decision was made.
