What has happened so far?

An options development process, supported by continuous engagement, has been carried out. This involved various stakeholders, including:

  • partner organisations (including Swansea Bay University Health Board and Welsh Ambulance Services University NHS Trust)
  • patient and community representatives identified through an expression of interest process
  • members of SOSPPAN (Save Our Services Prince Philip Action Network)
  • members of Llais, an independent statutory body to give people of Wales more say in the planning and delivery of their health and social care services
  • staff from both within the Unit and the wider Prince Philip Hospital community and trade union representatives.

This process involved developing and reviewing potential options for the minor injury service at Prince Philip Hospital.

Twelve options were reviewed against ‘hurdle criteria’ – this is the minimum criteria that must be met to ensure only deliverable options would be shortlisted.

Four options were shortlisted – and two of those options were brought forward by community stakeholders as part of the options development process. Our Health Board decided to consult with you at a Public Board meeting in March 2025.

We have also held public drop-in sessions (in Llanelli & Llandybie) to share and update people unable to be directly involved in the option development workshops, We have also talked with our staff, our communities (through our Community Development Outreach Team) and with local Community Councils to keep them updated.
