Our health board has recently concluded an extensive two-year programme of work with the National Nosocomial COVID-19 Programme, to review the unusually high number of suspected nosocomial COVID-19 patient safety incidents recorded during the onset of the pandemic.
The programme was designed to support NHS Wales organisations to undertake duties to investigate suspected nosocomial COVID-19 patient safety incidents in a proportionate way, providing as many answers as possible to patients, families, carers and staff impacted by nosocomial COVID-19, as well as maximising opportunities for learning and improvement.
National learning themes, including good practice, have been summarised in the National Nosocomial COVID-19 Programme End of Programme Learning Report, which has now been published.
Learning from investigations will have a significant impact on people’s experiences, the quality of services, and safety of patients and service users receiving care.
The organisation continues to investigate suspected nosocomial COVID-19 patient safety incidents outside of the programme dates as part of typical review processes.
