10 February 2021 - Hywel Dda vaccine bulletin - Issue 5

Welcome to the fifth edition of Hywel Dda University Health Board’s Vaccine Bulletin.

This weekly update will provide the latest information regarding the progress of the COVID-19 Mass Vaccination Programme across Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire.

This past week we have managed to hit a major milestone – across our three counties 1 in 5 people have now received a COVID-19 vaccine.

Steve Moore, Chief Executive of Hywel Dda UHB, said: “With thanks to hard work and dedication of vaccination teams, GP practices and volunteers across the three counties, we are on target to offer all care home residents and staff; frontline health and social care staff; everyone over 70; and everyone who is clinically extremely vulnerable, a vaccination by Monday 15 February.

“I’d also like to take this opportunity to thank the thousands of people in our community who have accepted a vaccine invitation. To see over 90% of people in some priority groups take up the vaccine is amazing.

“We hope to see these high numbers of people choosing to protect themselves with a vaccine continue as we now look towards our next milestone of offering a vaccine to everyone over 50 and everyone who is at-risk because they have an underlying health condition by Easter.

“Let’s keep Hywel Dda safe. Thank you.”

People in groups 1 to 4 asked to book appointment

Mid and West Wales Fire Service lend its support to transport people to their vaccine appointment

As we extended our vaccination programme, the health board recognised some of the challenges people within the community may have attending an appointment at one of the six mass vaccination centres in place across the three counties.

Putting out a request to partners for assistance, Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service came forward to assist with the transportation of people to and from their appointments.

Chris Davies, Chief Fire Officer for Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service, said: “This partnership with Hywel Dda UHB is unique, and indeed the first of its kind for fire and rescue services in Wales. Our staff are community focused and trained to work with people from all walks of life. This combination has allowed us to react quickly to this request for assistance.”

Ros Jervis, Director of Public Health for Hywel Dda University Health Board, said, “The support of Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service has been fantastic and on behalf of the health board I’d like to thank everyone involved for their assistance, which will ensure people who are genuinely struggling to travel to a mass vaccination centre can attend their appointment.”

The health board is working closely with community organisations and transport groups to ensure support is given to those who are genuinely struggling to travel to a mass vaccination centre. Please contact the health board using the number on your appointment letter if you require assistance with transport or visit our mass vaccination centres information (opens in new tab).

Only contact your GP or the health board if you are in priority groups 1 to 4 and have not yet received and appointment
If you are not in priority groups 1 to 4, please do not contact us at this time. Our next milestone is to offer a vaccination to priority groups 5 to 9 by Easter. This is everyone over 50 and everyone who is at-risk because they have an underlying health condition. Further announcements about how these groups will receive their vaccine will be made as soon as possible.
