Cancer screening

Cervical screening Wales

Cervical screening looks for high risk types of Human Papillomavirus (HPV) that can cause cell changes on the cervix.  Finding cell changes can prevent cervical cancer from developing.

Women and people with a cervix aged between 25 to 64 are invited for cervical screening every 5 years.

Breast test Wales

Breast screening looks for breast cancer before symptoms show.  This involves taking mammograms, which are x-rays of the breast.

Women aged 50 to 70 are invited for a breast x-ray for breast cancer screening every 3 years.

Women aged 70 and over will not be invited for screening but can contact Breast Test Wales and ask for an appointment.

Bowel screening Wales

Bowel screening aims to find bowel cancer at an early stage when treatment is likely to be more effective.   The test looks for hidden blood in your stool (poo).

People aged 50 to 74 will be offered bowel screening every 2 years.
