Video consultation appointments using Medio

If you are offered a video consultation appointment, this is because your healthcare professional has indicated that is it safe and appropriate. Your video appointment will be confidential and will not be recorded.

What you need to join a video consultation

In order to join your appointment you will need:

  • Equipment:
    • access to a device that will allow you to connect to the internet (eg a computer, laptop, tablet or mobile smartphone).
    • a webcam (camera), speakers and microphone.
  • Internet browser:
    • Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge web browser if connecting on a computer or laptop, Android tablet or smartphone.
    • Safari web browser if connecting on an Apple iMac, MacBook, iPad, or iPhone.
  • Internet access:
    • a good internet connection (if you can watch a YouTube video, this suggests you have a good connection).  Please use our “test call” to check.
    • an internet usage plan that is sufficient to cover the data consumption of a video call – ideally use a Wi-Fi connection if you have this available.

How to join a video consultation

Your healthcare professional will send you a letter, email or text message with details of your video consultation appointment.  It will contain the appropriate web address link to access your video healthcare appointment.

Type the web address link from your appointment confirmation into your web browser bar (not search engine box) using a device that connects to the internet.

If you require support to access your video consultation, please contact us on the telephone number provided in your appointment letter, email or text message. This number can also be used to cancel/rearrange your healthcare appointment.

If you are unable to attend your virtual appointment, please let us know by telephoning the number on your appointment letter, or contact the virtual receptionist via the Contact Centre on 0300 303 9642.

The short video below demonstrates how to attend your video consultation.

Please note - you can join your appointment at any time (and test your equipment if you haven't already done so).  You will be called into the consultation when the clinician is ready.  Please be patient if we are running slightly late - your clinician will know you are waiting.

If you have having trouble accessing the video call appointment please refer to our “Frequently asked questions," "Having trouble” and “Resources” section below.
