Critical Care

The Critical Care Unit is a specially staffed and equipped ward where patients are closely monitored. Patients may have a life-threatening condition or admitted after having major surgery. Sometimes a critical care unit could be called an intensive care unit/high dependency unit (ICU/HDU).

Most patients who are admitted to the ICU need specialist treatment because one or more organs of the body are not working properly. Some patients may be nursed on a one-to-one basis until their condition improves.

We have beds in our four critical care units in Glangwili Hospital, Withybush hospital, Bronglais Hospital and Prince Philip hospital.

We work closely with our colleagues in critical care units across Wales.
