Breastfeeding and vaccinations

The benefits of breastfeeding are well known, and all these vaccines can safely be given to women and birthing people who are breastfeeding.

The antibodies you make following vaccination can pass into your breast milk. These may give your baby some protection against these diseases.

Minute traces of COVID-19 vaccine have been found in the breast milk of some vaccinated women/birthing people, but they disappear after a few days. There is no evidence of harm to the baby and any traces are expected to be broken down with breast milk in the baby’s stomach.

You should not stop breastfeeding before your vaccination, and you can continue breastfeeding as normal afterwards.
