Interim Executive Medical Director

Born and bred in south west Wales, I was appointed as interim Executive Medical Director in February 2024.

My first post with the NHS in west Wales began when I joined Carmarthenshire NHS Trust in 2006 as a Consultant Upper GI and General Surgeon. Since then, I have developed my clinical and leadership career at Hywel Dda and was, most recently, a Consultant General Surgeon and a Deputy Medical Director.

After completing my medical training at Cardiff University, I finished my basic surgical training in various hospitals across south Wales. I spent two years undertaking surgical research in Nottingham University that led to the attainment of my doctorate in Medicine. I then spent moved to Newcastle to complete my Higher Surgical training in General and Upper GI Surgery.

I am an experienced leader and have held several leadership roles within and outside the health board since I held my first clinical leadership role in 2008. In 2016 I was appointed as the Clinical Director of Scheduled care, and in 2019 I was appointed as Deputy Medical Director for Acute Services. I am passionate about professional standards and supporting doctors to be the best they can be.

I call Carmarthenshire home, where I live with my wife and two sons. I am an avid sports supporter and particularly enjoy watching rugby and darts.
