Current status as of 21 August 2020

As part of the COVID recovery plan, the following essential Eye services are currently running across the four sites within the health board. To ensure safe practice in line with recommended guidelines the capacity is reduced and we are offering this service to all patients referred in that are urgent R1 patients (patient who may suffer serious irreversible harm from delays).

Service changes in place:

  • Rapid access emergency eye care
  • Vitreoretinal -  theatres and clinics
  • Cataracts – theatres and clinics
  • Glaucoma - theatres and clinics
  • Medical retina, diabetic eye disease, age related macula degeneration and uveitis
  • Oculoplastic – theatres and clinics
  • Paediatric clinics
  • Orthoptics
  • Laser procedures – argon and retinal
  • Fluorescein clinics
  • Ophthalmology pre-assessment licnic
  • Botulinum/botox
  • Contact lens clinics

 

Future plans

Phased plans to increase capacity across sites adhering to national guidelines. The reinstatement of theatre sessions across sites. We continue to check that all patients are on the right pathway for their current needs and to clinically prioritise as per national guidelines.
