What is Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD)?

Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD) is sometimes also referred to as ‘Pulmonary Fibrosis’. The term ILD covers a wide range of conditions which affect the lungs due to scarring and inflammation.

Some of these conditions include:

  • idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF),

  • hypersensitivity pneumonitis (HP),

  • sarcoidosis, asbestosis

  • lung conditions associated with rheumatological conditions.

The main symptoms associated with ILD are progressive breathlessness and persistent dry cough.
