Contraception choices: After you have had a baby

Contraception may be the last thing on your mind when you just had a baby, but you can get pregnant again as soon as 21 days after childbirth. We recommend waiting at least one year after giving birth before getting pregnant again to reduce complications such as preterm birth, low birthweight, stillbirth and neonatal death.
