Directors are employed by the UHB and their tenure of appointment is determined by their contract of employment. The Health Board has a Scheme of Delegation, which is regularly reviewed and approved by the Board and details the latest version of the responsibilities and accountabilities for each of the UHB’s Executive Directors and their respective Directorates, and for the special areas of work within their portfolios. It is an integral element of the Health Board’s Governance and Assurance Framework.
Independent Members are appointed by the Minister of Health and Social Services for a period specified by the Welsh Government (but for no longer than 4 years in any one term). These members can be reappointed but may not serve a total period of more than eight years. Independent Members’ tenure of appointment will cease if they no longer meet any of the eligibility requirements, as far as they apply, as specified in Schedule 2 of the Constitution Regulations.
