Hywel Dda Post - digital access to your outpatient letters

31 March 2026

Hywel Dda University Health Board is pleased to share the rollout of Hywel Dda Post, a digital service that enables patients to access their outpatient letters securely online.

This initiative is part of the Health Board’s commitment to improving communication and enhancing patient experience.

Hywel Dda Post gives patients quicker and more convenient access to important appointment information - reducing the need to wait for letters to arrive by post and helping patients stay informed about their care. Letters can be viewed safely on a secure digital platform, anytime and anywhere, using a smartphone, tablet, or computer.

The introduction of Hywel Dda Post reflects the Health Board’s commitment to modernising healthcare services and enhancing the patient experience. By reducing the reliance on printed materials and postal deliveries, this initiative also supports the Health Board’s commitment to environmental sustainability, helping to lower the carbon footprint.

Anthony Tracey, Digital Director explains: “Hywel Dda Post is about giving people greater choice and control over how they receive information about their care. Many patients tell us they want faster and easier access to their letters, and this secure digital option allows us to do that. So far, 70 per cent of our patients who have been invited to Hywel Dda Post are now accessing their appointment information online.

“Of course, digital access will not replace traditional communication for those who prefer it. Patients who want to continue receiving printed letters by post will still be able to do so.”

Our patients can now tailor their outpatient letters to suit their individual needs, including receiving communications in Welsh, large font, braille, or printed on yellow paper. By enhancing these features, patients will be able access vital information in a way that works best for them.

Most outpatient services are now on the platform, with additional clinics due to be added over the coming months.

Sharon Daniel, Executive Director of Nursing, Quality & Patient Experience, added:
“Clear, accessible, and timely communication is essential to patient care. Post Hywel Dda gives members of our communities more choice and control, including the opportunity to reschedule appointments if they are not convenient - helping us to deliver a service that is inclusive and responsive to individual needs.

“Enabling patients to access letters digitally also makes them more accessible. We are keen to remove barriers, so every patient feels supported and informed.

“However, we understand that not everyone has access to digital technology or feels confident using it. To support digital inclusion, our team can offer guidance to help patients who wish to use the service but need assistance.”

Further information can be found on the Health Board’s website at https://hduhb.nhs.wales/digital/hywel-dda-post/(opens in a new tab) including a Q&A that gives advice on how to access Hywel Dda Post and reassurance if you’d prefer to be contacted by letter.

The Health Board will continue to listen to patient feedback as the service is rolled out. For more information about Post Hywel Dda and communication options, patients are encouraged to speak to their clinic or visit the Health Board’s website.
