A personalised support service is now available for people with a highly suspected or confirmed cancer diagnosis who are living in or receiving treatment within Hywel Dda University Health Board (UHB).
Whether someone is preparing for treatment, currently undergoing therapy, or in recovery, the Cancer Therapies Service is designed to help them feel informed, supported and empowered.
Delivered by a team of experienced professionals, including dietitians, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, and therapy assistant practitioners, the service offers tailored support plans that meet individual needs. These plans help patients prepare for treatment, stay well during therapy, and recover afterwards.
The service is available to anyone with a highly suspected or confirmed cancer diagnosis who is living in or receiving treatment within Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion or Pembrokeshire. Support is provided virtually, making it accessible from the comfort of your own home.
Patients can access the service at various stages:
Suzanne Crompton, Specialist Occupational Therapy Service Lead at Hywel Dda, said: “We understand that a cancer diagnosis can be overwhelming, and our aim is to provide people with the tools, knowledge and support they need to feel confident and in control.
“By working together, we can help individuals prepare for treatment, manage its effects, and support their recovery in a way that’s truly personalised.”
Feedback from patients who have used the service has been overwhelmingly positive. One person shared:
“I’ve had a holistic and caring experience. It has given me insight into alternative ways to cope with my current situation.”
Another said:
“It gave me assurance that what I was doing was all good regarding diet, activity levels and sleep. All aspects of my wellbeing were covered.”
Group sessions have also been praised for creating a sense of community and shared experience.
Suzanne added: “This service is not only about clinical care, it’s about compassion, connection and confidence.”
