23 August 2021
This week, August 23-27, 2021, Hywel Dda University Health Board (UHB) is proud to be celebrating the 20th anniversary of the arrival of our first Filipino members of staff.
Throughout the week, we will be highlighting the rich culture the Filipino community bring to our Health Board. Staff will be sharing their personal stories, photographs and providing their recipes on site in our canteens with the community.
We mark the beginning of the week by showing our pride and raising the Philippine flag at Glangwili Hospital, Carmarthen.
Karen Barker, Head of Nursing for Scheduled Care at Hywel Dda UHB, said: “It’s a wonderful privilege to be celebrating the 20th Anniversary of our Filipino staff members within Hywel Dda.
“I went on one of the first recruitment trips to the Philippines 20 years ago, so to see the flags being raised and to celebrate this community fills me with immense pride.
“I wish to give a massive thank you, on behalf of the entire health board, for the dedication and commitment that the Filipino Community within Hywel Dda have given throughout the past 20 years.”
Jane Milewska, Staff Nurse at Glangwili Hospital and Chairman of the Filipino Community in Carmarthen, said: “On behalf of the Filipino community of Carmarthen, we would like to say a massive thank you for all the support and for making us feel so welcome in Hywel Dda.
“As we celebrate the 20th anniversary since the first recruitment of Filipino nurses, I have to say that you have made it feel like home for us all. Diolch yn fawr.”
Helen Sullivan, Head of Partnerships, Diversity and Inclusion, adds: “We are delighted to be involved in celebrating such an important milestone and saying thank you to the Filipino community and for their significant contributions as our colleagues and residents of our three counties.
“As a Health Board, we remain committed to diversity and inclusion and recognising the passion and commitment of our diverse workforce.”
