Final days to share your views on the future of Llanelli's Minor Injury Unit

Entrance to the Minor Injury Unit

11 July 2025

With just days remaining until the consultation closes, Hywel Dda University Health Board is urging members of the public to have their say on the future of the Minor Injury Unit (MIU) at Prince Philip Hospital in Llanelli.

The twelve-week consultation, which launched on 28 April 2025, will close on Tuesday 22 July 2025. The Health Board is encouraging anyone who has not yet taken part to complete the consultation questionnaire or get in touch to share your views.

The MIU has been operating under temporary opening hours of 8am to 8pm daily since November 2024, due to staffing challenges and to ensure patient and staff safety. The consultation seeks views on four potential long-term options for the service, as well as any alternative suggestions from the community.

Dr Jon Morris, Clinical Lead at the MIU, said:

“We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who has taken the time to share their views so far. This is a genuine consultation with no preferred option, and we continue to welcome all feedback – including new ideas we may not have considered.”

Over the past ten weeks, hundreds of people have engaged through drop-in events, online meetings, and community discussions. The Health Board has also continued to meet with patients and staff at the hospital to gather views directly.

The consultation focuses specifically on services for minor injuries – such as cuts, grazes, sprains, and minor fractures – and how these are delivered in Llanelli in the future. It does not affect the Acute Medical Assessment Unit (AMAU) at Prince Philip Hospital, which continues to provide emergency care for seriously ill adult patients.
