Hywel Dda University Health Board would like to thank thousands of local people who took part in the public consultation on the Clinical Services Plan, which closed on Sunday 31 August 2025.

The thirteen-and-a-half-week consultation, which launched on 29 May 2025, invited people from across Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire and bordering communities to share their views on how nine key healthcare services could be delivered in the future across hospitals and community settings. The services are critical care, dermatology, emergency general surgery, endoscopy, ophthalmology, orthopaedics, radiology, stroke and urology.

During the course of the consultation, the Health Board received approaching 4,000 responses to the questionnaire and hosted a range of engagement activities including drop-in sessions, online meetings and community discussions. Additional events were arranged in response to public feedback, including a final online question and answer session held on Wednesday 27 August.

Feedback includes more than 100 alternative options and ideas submitted by stakeholders including individuals, community groups and organisations, reflecting the high level of public interest and engagement with the consultation.

Medical Director Mr Mark Henwood said: “We are grateful to everyone who has given us their time and responses. We will now need to review this wealth of feedback received. It is likely, given the volume of responses and particularly the number of alternative options, that it may not be possible for the Board to make any final decisions in November. An updated position on timing for decisions will be provided to the Board at its meeting in September.”

An independent social research organisation Opinion Research Services (ORS) is now reviewing and analysing feedback. The views and ideas in consultations, along with supporting evidence, data, and impact assessments, will help inform future Board decisions about the services. For more information about the Clinical Services Plan, noting the period of gathering views for the consultation has now closed, please visit the Health Board’s consultation webpages: https://hduhb.nhs.wales/clinical-services-consultation (opens in a new window)
