The annual Hywel Dda ‘Loved and Lost Baby Remembrance Service’ will take place on Saturday 26 April 2025 in Carmarthen.

The service, arranged by health board staff and led by the Spiritual Care Department (Chaplaincy), has long been a source of comfort for parents and families and provides an opportunity for people to reflect and to come together to pay respects.

The service will take place at Bethel Chapel, Hill House, Picton Terrace, Carmarthen SA31 3BT at midday on Saturday 26 April. Bethel Chapel can be found behind the Welsh Government offices and the Army Reserve Centre on Picton Terrace with ample parking available.

Euryl Howells, Senior Chaplain at Hywel Dda University Health Board, said: “This service of remembrance is an important moment in the year when parents and families who has been affected by the very sad experience of babies who have passed away.

“It does not matter how long ago you suffered your loss, or where it happened or at what stage you were at in your pregnancy, you are all welcome.

“The service provides an opportunity for people to reflect and to come together to be with others who are experiencing a similar loss way be helpful when surrounded by support and love.”

A parent who has attended the service said, “A remembrance service like this means a lot to me in remembering Baby N”

Cerian Llewellyn, interim head of midwifery added, “Losing a baby is one of the most difficult things parents will experience and as health professionals we are here to walk beside you through this process.

“Grief can be overwhelming, and it can take time to find a sense of peace, but you are not alone in this journey and that becomes obvious as we unite within the remembrance service.

“The loved and lost baby service is an opportunity for us to honour your baby's memory while helping you through your grief and loss.”

At this year’s service parents are invited to bring along a photograph or an item with their child’s name or an artefact such as a blanket or toy to place on the memory table during the service.

We are again grateful of the support and kindness of Pastor Tim and members of Bethel Church who will be providing refreshments.
