Hywel Dda University Health Board (UHB) will join next month’s global tribute to midwives and nurses.
International Day of the Midwife is on Thursday 5 May and International Day of the Nurse is on Thursday 12 May, which is also the anniversary of Florence Nightingale's birth.
During each of the days, the health board will be highlighting their tremendous work. It will also be an opportunity to raise the profile of the breadth and diversity of nursing and midwifery roles, their expertise, and the impact they have on patients and service users.
Mandy Rayani, Hywel Dda UHB’s Director of Nursing, Quality and Patient Experience, said: “Our wonderful nurses and midwives work across our hospitals, community hospitals, in GP practices, health centres and clinics. There can often be a lack of awareness and understanding amongst the public around who nurses and midwives are, and what they do. Their roles are very diverse and it’s important to recognise their contribution to the health and well-being of our communities across the three counties.
“This has been a very challenging time for midwives, nurses, and other healthcare professionals. As a nurse I am immensely proud to be part of a profession that puts the needs of people at the heart of what they do and how despite the challenges of the pandemic they have continued to work with compassion, courage and professionalism.”
