Hywel Dda University Health Board (UHB) welcomes three new internationally trained nurses to join the health board’s workforce.

International nurses have been part of the NHS since its inception in 1948 and continue to play a vital role. More than 400 nurses are expected to come and work in Wales this year, with more expected to arrive in the Hywel Dda area, through a centrally delivered programme NHS Wales Shared Services Partnership, local health boards and the Welsh Government

On International Nurse Day (May 12th) the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) for Wales, Sue Tranka met some of the new nurses from across the world who have come to work in NHS Wales. Sue said: “I know first-hand that NHS Wales will very much welcome these nurses with open arms, as I have really had a wonderful welcome since joining as CNO last year.”

Here in Hywel Dda UHB, the first three nurses welcomed as part of this cohort are set to start working at Glangwili Hospital, Carmarthen.

Nabitha Kabeer from India said: “I am excited to be with NHS Wales. I look forward to exploring the beauty of Wales and I’m excited about the opportunity to develop my career and specialise as a theatre nurse or a forensic nurse.”

Sanyana Devassy from India said: “I am excited about the training and look forward to developing in my career.”

Roshni Roy from India said: “I am looking forward to provide nursing care which meets professional standards with dignity towards patients. I am also excited about settling my family here in Wales.”

The UHBs approach to attracting and retaining its employees is to be a value based organisation. Director of Workforce and OD Lisa Gostling said: “We continuously work together to be the best we can be as we strive to develop and deliver excellent services, putting people at the heart of everything we do. We want to attract a diverse workforce and are delighted to welcome Nabitha, Sanyana and Roshni to the Hywel Dda family.”
