Temporary ward closures at Glangwili Hospital

Two wards at Glangwili Hospital are currently closed to admissions and visitors due to separate outbreaks of infectious conditions.

Steffan Ward Glangwili is managing an outbreak of influenza (flu) and Cadog Ward is managing an outbreak of scabies.

The health, safety and wellbeing of our patients, visitors and staff is our priority. We are following national guidance and have taken additional steps to reduce the risk of infection spreading. These include extra cleaning, isolating patients when required, monitoring the situation closely, and providing care and treatment for affected patients.

Our Infection Prevention and Control Team is working closely with ward teams and hospital management to minimise any impact on services and to prevent further spread with reviews planned for next week to assess when the wards can reopen.

Important information for visitors

  • Please do not visit if you are feeling unwell, particularly if you have symptoms of flu such as fever, cough, sore throat or muscle aches.
  • Please do not attend our hospital sites if you have been in contact with a known case of scabies within the community 
  • Follow any ward-specific visitor restrictions that may be in place.
  • Clean your hands using soap and water or alcohol hand gel when entering and leaving clinical areas.
  • Speak to ward staff before visiting if you have any concerns.

We will be monitoring the situation closely and hope to issue an update early next week.
