Tycroes Surgery to remain integral part of community following Board meeting

The future of Tycroes Surgery, the branch surgery of Margaret Street Practice, Ammanford, was discussed on 29 September by Hywel Dda University Health Board.
The health board received an application from Margaret Street Practice, Ammanford, to close its branch surgery earlier this year. Following this notice, the health board embarked on a seven-week period of engagement to listen to the views of patients and stakeholders and to gain an understanding of how a proposed closure would affect patients.
Tycroes Surgery has been closed since February 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the building served as a ‘red site’ for the Amman Gwendraeth GP cluster. Prior to the pandemic, the branch was used for a range of General Medical Services.
The Board agreed unanimously that the Practice must be supported to continue offering services from its branch surgery and to decline the application from the Practice to close Tycroes Surgery.
Health Board Chair, Maria Battle said: “We pride ourselves on being a listening Board, and we have heard the concerns of the community, and I am pleased to confirm that Tycroes Surgery will remain open for patients.
“On behalf of the Board I would like to thank everyone who took the time to provide their feedback, which has been vital in shaping our decision, and I would like to extend my gratitude to our primary care team for their hard work.”
Jill Paterson, Director of Primary Care, Community and Long-term care for Hywel Dda University Health Board added: “We have listened to the strength of public feeling and would like to reassure patients that the branch will remain an important part of their community in the ongoing provision of General Medical Services provided by the Margaret Street Surgery.
“We would like to thank patients and stakeholders for contributing to the engagement process.
“We will now work closely with the Practice to establish what services will delivered from Tycroes Surgery going forward.”
